Global human trafficking roundup (October 5, 2010)

NORTH AMERICA

California: Police suspects that Hawthorne man has trafficked more than two girls. According to the report, the 13 year old and 14 year old victims returned to their foster home and their family after the rescue. However, the 14 year old girl ran away again.  Two Sacramento men and a woman were indicted on multiple charges for trafficking and sexually exploiting a minor. According to the report, the three pimped on a teenage girl and created pornography according to the authority. If convicted they face minimum 15 years in prison. 

LATIN AMERICA

Jamaica: A businessman and his stepdaughter were remanded on custody after appearing before the court for their human trafficking charges. According to the report, they were arrested during the raid at a nightclub in September. They allegedly recruited foreign women and forced them into prostitution. The police also rescued thirteen foreign women including a few minors during the raid. 

EUROPE

Scotland: A prosecutor says that human trafficking has been disrupted in many ways regardless of no prosecuted cases. Her statement was in response to the recent criticism on low prosecution rate of human trafficking cases in Scotland. 

ASIA

Syria: Eleven individuals were arrested for organ trafficking between Syria and Egypt. The organ trafficking ring is led by a 26 year old female and victimized over 150 Syrians last year alone. 

AFRICA

Ghana: Three Chinese who trafficked 10 Chinese women for prostitution in Ghana appealed their sentence from lower court. They were found guilty on charges of conspiracy and human trafficking. They each were sentenced more than 10 years in jail at the lower court.
