This year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association celebrated the 70th birthday of the Golden Globes. But getting older did not stop the TV and film award annual ceremony from getting goofy - with comediennes Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey playing hosts for the evening. After an infamous night not but a year ago lead by Ricky Gervais, The two gal pals proved that you can still be loved while taking jabs at their fellow Hollywood colleagues.
Aside from the much needed comic relief, this year's show really began on the red carpet. Silver Linings Playbook winner Jennifer Lawrence stunningly donned a floor length crimson Dior Couture while Sienna Miller, otherwise always a worth a gander, walked the carpet with a questionable Erdem flower print skirt and crop top. Other notable dresses of the evening include Halle Barry in a fitting one shoulder Versace and Jennifer Lopez, as usual, in a love-it-or-hate-it overlaced gown by Zuhair Murad.
The night turned out to be quite an entertainment for the film world; Former President Bill Clinton surprised the stage to fittingly present a clip from Spielberg's Lincoln, and Jodie Foster's Lifetime Achievement Award speech was, well, how about you check it out for yourself? The show ended on quite a note, with Argo actor and director Ben Affleck taking home the gold for Best Directing as well as Best Picture Drama. Though hardly surprising, musical sensation adaptation Les Miserables dipped in gold with Anne Hathaway deservingly taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress, co-star Hugh Jackman won the award for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy and the film itself was awarded Best Picture for a Musical/Comedy - with an abundance of applause as roaring as the cries of the French Revolution. Well not quite, but almost.
Nonetheless, the award show proved a very interesting backbone and blue-print for what we might be in store for at the Oscars late next month.
