Glenn Ligon has an impressive exhibition list: Museum of Modern Art, New York City; Harvard University Art Museums, Cambridge, MA; Art Basel 38, Switzerland; Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai, China; the White House, Washngton, D.C, and the list scrolls onward throughout America, South America, Europe, and beyond.
With an upbringing in the Bronx, one could very well see where the complex texture of his birth city may have had a hand in shaping Ligon's views of the world and art. His "formation and perception of identity and race" are expressed through text paintings, print, neon, installation, as well as video. His exploration of literature, language, social, and political imagery, demonstrate that Ligon has found a platform to view and express his fascination with cultural individuality in the realm of mass human history.
