The 49ers announced they signed Glenn Dorsey to a two-year contract on Thursday afternoon. The team held a conference call with the media for Dorsey's first interview as a 49er. Here is what he said:
On reacting to the 49ers have an interest in him:
"I was excited, I really look forward to the opportunity. I got the call from my agent and hopped on a flight [immediately]."
On what he saw in the 49ers from the 2012 season:
"I saw their success and passion for the game. They have a winning formula. I'm excited to be a part of that."
On defensive line coach Jim Tomsula:
"He's a great guy and he picked me up from the airport. He was talking 100 miles per hour about football. He took me to vicinities and he knows a lot [about the game]. I'm excited to get the opportunity to work for him."
On becoming a 49er:
"I have the opportunity to compete and play. I'm looking good and ready to compete. The [49ers have] done an awesome job coming in and watching everyone on film. They do a good job at it."
On expectations from others after originally being the fifth overall draft pick in the 2008 NFL Draft:
"I don't buy into everyone else's expectations. I have my own [expectations] to compete the best that I can. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I can only work hard as I can and compete at a high level."
On the atmosphere of being with the 49ers:
"It's a positive atmosphere. Everyone is working hard and talking to each other. Everyone high fiving each other. It's a family environment as [players and coaches] enjoy working with each other. It's different than what I'm used to."
On meeting Justin Smith for the first time as a teammate:
"Justin Smith lives and breathes football and is passionate about it. I hope to learn from him as he knows a lot about the game."
On what position he will play with the 49ers:
"I go where they see me fit. I'm ready for any position. I'm thankful to get the part and opportunity."
