Glenn Beck
The Media Matters irony detector must've been in the shop on September 16, when they roused themselves to mock Glenn Beck... for making a joke. Here's what they wrote:
Beck: [politically outspoken UK band] Muse is "brilliant," buy their new album; Muse: Please retract your endorsement
Then Media Matters helpfully posts five minutes of audio from Beck's radio show. After praising the British musical group Muse at length, Beck returns after the commercial break and says:
I just got an email from representatives of Muse. They would like me to retract my endorsement. My apologies to Muse for saying that I like them. I didn't mean to destroy all their credibility and coolness. Let me just set the record straight. Muse – I hate them. It's an awful album and you should never go out and buy it.
Frankly, I'm a bit shocked by Beck's fondness for Muse. I can't believe he doesn't know that one of the musicians in Muse is a "9/11 Truther," who also asserts the contradictory view that "America asked for it." After all, Van Jones, a favorite target of Beck's before his resignation as White House "green jobs czar," was connected to those who believe "9/11 was an inside job."
Amusingly, Media Matters is either too lazy or too dumb to even raise those contradictions in this particular "critique" of Glenn Beck -- if you can really call a web post consisting entirely of a snarky headline and a five-minute audio clip a "critique." It's like I'm doing their job for them. Maybe George Soros, the far-left billionaire who funds Media Matters, should cut me a check...
Now, my first clue that Beck was joshing about getting that email and his subsequent "retraction" was that you could hear his crew laughing in the background. My second clue was Beck's sarcastic tone. (Oh, and Media Matters: if you're reading this -- now I'm being sarcastic, see? You're welcome...)
No one paid much attention to this "news story" until Monday, when the "controversy" hit the British press. Earlier this week, the UK supermarket chain Waitrose pulled its ads off the British feed for FOX News, citing "customer concerns" about Beck's statement earlier this year that President Barack Obama is "a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."
So with Beck's name making news, British reporters did weird things (sarcasm) like Googling Beck's name, and they found the Media Matters post about Muse.
Then they did something really crazy (sarcasm) and called the president of Beck's production company -- long distance, even! (sarcasm) -- to ask if Muse had really sent that email to Beck And he told the reporters the bit about getting the email was a joke.
There are now around 300 stories on Google News about Media Matters' outrage over an obvious (and forgettable) "morning zoo" gag on Beck's radio show.
Which means Media Matters is being mocked around the world for being a bunch of humorless, hyper-vigilant, tone-deaf leftists who evidently don't know how to dial a phone, or just can't be bothered to do so.
A pretty nice punchline. But I doubt Media Matters gets it, even now.

Comments
Media Mattes--what a bunch of Einsteins.
Beck sure is on the minds of all who want the truth to stay hidden behind the scenes.
Glenn Beck rocks me and my old lady's world! We're both official "Sick Twisted Freaks" now!!
Kathy Shaidle posts on her own stories using sock puppet identities designed to provoke comments, thus bringing her around 50 cents a day. Let's see--"writing" two to three stories a day and posting comments several times a day. That's a tough way to make less than a dollar, Kathy! Are you sure you aren't on "disability" anymore?
Sock Puppet Kunt: when you don't have much going for you, you take what you can get.
The old bait-and-switch...
That seems to be developing into the new right-wing GOTCHA. It would be a lot more fun and productive if they quit with the Gotcha's and focused a little more on serious, sensible solutions. It's difficult to discern whether their current methods are just silly antics or perhaps they just don't have a clue, so this is they disolve into... sort of like children at a reunion dinner...
Maybe if they act a little more mature they'll be asked to join the adults at the big table.
Media Matters - a leftwing schill who constantly seek opportunities to hit conservative commentators - doesn't really MATTER to most Americans.
Glad to see they're a victim of their own game.
PS - I still think Kathy is a hottie!
Jon-In-CA (Kathy), OK.
Does anyone out there have a picture of Arnie Lemaire or do you know where I can get one? I'm putting together a collage. I did a google image search and could find no photo of the guy himself! Blazing Cat Fur doesn't have a pic, either.
Man Kathy's fans are a loyal bunch.
um, shut the he!! up
Hello
Bindie - sorry to burst your bubble but I'm a single dad, 3 kids, straight, employed, and very conservative. And yes I think Kathy is cute.
Just curious - why the personal insults to her and not simply addressing her column? I'm a Beck supporter and find this approach by liberals (attacking Beck and not his message) to be loquacious and inane.
When we get into the proverbial gutter employing the politics of personal destruction - we lose the strength of our arguments.
It's strange you aren't offended by Glenn Beck or Kathy Shaidle then, Jon-In-CA, if you are so offended by personal attacks. They are all about personal attacks. In fact, they rarely do anything but attack people personally and spread lies. Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove wrote the book on personal attacks, and people like Kathy Shaidle and Glenn Beck are carrying the torch.
Jon-In-CA says: " ... why the personal insults to her and not simply addressing her column? I'm a Beck supporter and find this approach by liberals (attacking Beck and not his message) to be loquacious and inane."
Jon, typical Alinsky tactics of the left state, when you can't attack the message, attack the messenger.
Fiore,
Gee Fiore, if Glenn Beck spreads "lies" - someone better rush right over to Van Jones's house and let him know all those videos of VJ were just "lies".
And someone better let those ACORN workers know THOSE videos were "lies".
And while you're driving around - stop off at Yoshi Sargents' place to let him know the taped recordings were all fabricated.
Wow - who know Beck was SO damn good at making up this stuff????
DRH writes,
"Jon, typical Alinsky tactics of the left state, when you can't attack the message, attack the messenger."
Riiiiight, my suggestion to STICK TO THE ISSUES and not personally insulting Kathy is somehow attacking "Sock Puppet Kunt"?
LMAO
LOL! Jon-In-Ca, for someone who doesn't like personal attacks, you're sure quick to whip them out when you're cornered. Let's have some more names of people to personally attack.
Jon-In-Ca-Ca, no wonder you're a single dad. You're a dick.
Hands off Kathy, by the way. She's mine.
And by the way, Jon in caca, DRH was writing in support of you, but you're too dumb to realize it.
What a waste of bits and bytes this story is.
How do you know Glenn Beck is lying?
When his lips are moving.
i never watch fox news anymore and i am a republican. to me it is such a negative racist based station. i was just wondering, is glenn beck a comedian or what. i mean he just seems so comical to me.
I found this on a blog, Brent, but that was as close as I came:
NUTTY NUPTIALS NOTICE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Friday, March 20, 2009, 10:22 AM
We give you Ms. Kathy Shaidle...and her husband, Imaginit Technologies computer design fellow, Mr. Arnie Lemaire.
You know him best, perhaps, as lunatic serial hater Blazing Cat Fur.
Oh, I know a lot of people who have been looking for this guy.
[We have removed the Kathy-Arnie photo. It was simply too disturbing for too many readers.]
Fiore,
Please share with the class where I have personally attacked anyone? What name or perjorative did I personally call you or any person here?
PLEASE - I beg you to enlighten us all
PS - my apologies to DHR - it is true I did not catch his answering my rhetorical question about the approach of attacking the person as opposed to the issues.
Brent - "projection" is a term you might want to learn.
On another thread, Jon-In-CA said, "Actually - though I am likely politically opposite of Kathy, I think she is an attractive women!" First of all, although Kathy Shaidle no doubt weighs as much several women, she is just one, big, fat one. Second, you are disingenuous when you state that you are likely the political opposite of Kathy. You obviously agree with everything she says. Third, you have said over and over how attractive, hot, and cute you find Kathy. I must, therefore, assume that that you are either Kathy or her unfortunate husband trying to pretend you don't agree with her but are irresistibly attracted to her beauty. When, in fact, she has no beauty at all--not on the outside or the inside.
And, sir, my sympathy is with you, married to a hysterical, shrieking harpy.
But maybe you're into the rage/flying spittle thing.
What an a**hole! He joked about it, but only revealed the "joke" several weeks after the controversy blew up. Maybe that's why Muse's album debuted at #3 instead of #1! Some Muse/Glenn Beck fans may have been turned off by what they thought Muse did and decided not to buy their album as a result! This is NOT someone I'd want as a fan, someone whose big mouth could cost me my career. If I were Muse, I'd send an actual request for this guy to permanently shut up about my band! Wouldn't want to be associated with this right-wing crackpot anyway.
Does your mommies or parole officers know you lametards are on the internet again?
Silly Media Matters......you can't beat Beck.
Hilarious!!!!!!
Lilac Lantern.....where is your silly/zany liberal sense of humor?
Glenn beck is the greatest thing the Obama admin could have asked for, he is destroying the GOP, muddying the Ron Paul waters and only ever goes after small fish, bwahhhhahaha
keep going glendela!
ANYTHING that will stop the racist socialist pretender is okay by me. Keep up the good work Glenn Beck. You drive the liberal loons crazy!
NOBAMA!
They don't allow URL posts here, but there is a picture, allegedly, of Arnie Lemaire (wasn't someone looking for one?) on a site called meatriarchy. It's in an entry called "Right Wing Movie Night." All the people in the pictures are replusive, but the person identified as Arnie stands out as particularly unattractive. I saved the picture onto my computer if you can't find it. Just repost and I'll send it to you.
Or just do a Google image search of "Kathy Shaidle" + Arnie, and it comes up on the first page, I think.

2 funny 2 miss
um, you're awesome. Thanks for the links! Some brilliant and witty commentary about Ms. Shaidle.
THANKS for the Arnie picture, Delilah!
Someone forgot to put on her girdle that night.
Here, purportedly, are Kathy and Arnie: bit.ly/9e30b
Looks like Kathy has some CYBER STALKERS!
I am sure Muse appreciates the free PR. (O:}
Kathy, keep up the good work.
You're obviously doing something right to make the leftist wackos froth at the mouth so.
Got something to say?
