Glenn Beck rally video: Sarah Palin's Restoring Honor rally speech

The videos from Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally on Saturday, August 28, 2010, are starting to pour into YouTube.com -- like the one below of Sarah Parlin speaking about being the mother of a combat son.

I loved that quote: "You can say what you want to say about me, but at least I raised a combat fighter, and you can't take that away from me."

I was able to catch some of Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally live and streaming on Facebook.com -- but now that it's over, thank God for YouTube.

The message of Glenn Beck's rally is truly admirable, and of course as the Christian TV Examiner, I believe in Jesus as my Savior.

Yet something still smacked me wrong in some of the speeches -- like the way one woman's speaking got on my nerves with a tone that didn't seem to come from a place of Christ's love -- and perhaps not even His righteous judgment.

That's why a lot of Republicans are alienating African-Americans like me these days -- ones who voted for George W. Bush in 2004, but stood over that McCain-Palin and Obama-Biden choice in voting booths in 2008, and after a lot of research and praying and a little fasting went ahead and darkened the Obama-Biden circle.

Yet I'm not one to jump on the bash Glenn Beck bandwagon. I kind of like the fellow. He is truly talented.

But when some of these guys take their Christian banners and begin wearing them in the same manner that Rush Limbaugh does, we begin to creep into the type of religious demon territory that is most insidious to the Church.

Frank Bartleman's Azusa Street: First Hand Accounts of the Revival writes about this so eloquently and powerfully.

But then again, I guess that's what non-racist Republicans must think about when they see those crazy Obama-with-a-bone-in-nose carrying signs of Tea Party members.

Or, at least I hope they are shaking their heads at the "little leaven that leavens the whole lump" behavior that some cast upon the whole party and link to events like this.

However, there were a whole bunch of folks at Glenn Beck's rally as witnessed by the YouTube video below -- which some may accuse others of photoshopping and video editing and CGI-ing.

And there was at least one African-American speaker. Some of the music seemed really heartfelt and amazing.

Guess when Palin doesn't have a telepromter she is a very poor speaker, reliant on her notes. She comes across as very disingenuous because she can't even keep a paragraph in her head. I was happy to see even the whitebread, overweight, patriotic crowd was not that enamored of her. There is hope for this country and I just witnessed it. Thank You.

Your remarks sound very racist at their roots. White bread, overweight? Most speakers use notes when they speak including Obama and Clinton. It's a free contry and we plan to keep it that way you'e entitled to write what you have because we are free. America needs more rallies, the pledge of allegiance needs to get back in schools, english needs to be our only language, history needs to be taught to our kids, not changed and re-interpreted and politicians need to quit spending our future and that of our children. God Bless America!

You must be the only liberal in Wasilla. No wonder you are so angry. You probably can't get welfare.

My life goal has always been to raise a child to die too young (or be permanently disabled) in support of the military industrial complex, whose sons steer yachts across the "clean" Gulf of Mexico.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Hopefully you won't or don't have any children. I have had relatives sacrifice and die for this country and am proud to be an American. If you don't like it here find a country that is more to your liking and move there.

The people who go to war for you to make it possible for you to say those horrible things actually make that choice on their own. Nobody makes them join the military. They do it for YOU, and every other American.

  • proud to be there 1 year ago

i was there. boy were they ever wrong. but i guess that we will always be white racist hate mongers in their eyes because that is the only way they can discredit us. they can't do it with the truth which will set you free.

A fascinating and disheartening event. So many of those people believe the lies they are being told. If only they could turn off Fox News and read a few books and understand the real state of affairs. Using God and religion to convince people, many of whom are poor and uneducated, to support fiscal and governmental policy that is against their own self interest is so sinister that most people simply can't accept it. What do these poor souls think we are fighting for? Terrorism? Patriotism? Those are abstract concepts used to deceive. This is about peak oil, banking, and ensuring that those who control the military-industrial complex maintain that control. Soldiers dying for their country? Noble in thought but not quite the truth. Try soldiers dying so that American contractors can lay fiber optic cable at $1000 per foot - all paid for with your tax dollars.

I was in San Diego and Orange county yesterday driving. I listened by chance to most of the rally.
It was riveting NON-political and heart felt.
It made me feel proud to be an American and a down on my knees Christian. Thank God for Glenn, and Sarah, and our warriors they are helping provide freedom, honor and a clear path to taking our country back!!!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

AMEN to that Lin!!! What people don't understand is that this honestly has NOTHING to do with race, it's that we want our America back, the one that was founded on Christianity. It really is that simple!

  • DC Ellington 1 year ago

Lin, What do you mean by "taking the country back"? What have you lost? Who took it away?

yea let's get government in charge of religion.. - not. this isn't Iran.. I'd prefer it be a family thing. I don't see any of the Beck crowd offering anything I'd want to teach my kids. Just saying you're a patriot or God Fearing doesn't make you one.... - especially if you are making money on it.
