Today Glenn Beck went on Jay Leno's show and while there were many interesting moments from the interview the most striking was Beck's claim that he "is not a polarizing guy." Instead Beck says he is just a guy from a small town saying "the things that have to be said."
Merriam Webster defines "polarize" as "to break up into opposing factions or groupings." While Beck may contend his rehotoric is benign many would beg to differ. A simple google search turns up the following Beck quotes which many would see as very "polarizing."
(1) Beck called President Obama a "racist" with a "deep-seated hatred for white people."
(2) In discussin the families of 9-11 victimes Beck said the following:
you know it took me about a year to start hating the 9-11 victims' families? Took me about a year. And I had such compassion for them, and I really wanted to help them, and I was behind, you know, "Let's give them money, let's get this started." All of this stuff. And I really didn't -- of the 3,000 victims' families, I don't hate all of them. Probably about 10 of them. And when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, "Oh shut up!" I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining. And we did our best for them. And, again, it's only about 10."
(3) In interviewing Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN) Beck asked the following question. Keep in mind Rep. Ellison was the first Muslim to be elected as a member of Congress.
I have been nervous about this interview with you because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies. ... And I know you're not. I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way."
(4) While attacking Al Gore for supporting climate change legislation Beck compared Gore to Hitler saying:
Al Gore's not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization...And you must silence all dissenting voices. That's what Hitler did. That's what Al Gore, the U.N., and everybody on the global warming bandwagon [are doing]."
(5) If that was not far enough Beck also compared President Obama's support for stem research to the Nazi final solution when he said:
So here you have Barack Obama going in and spending the money on embryonic stem cell research. ... Eugenics. In case you don't know what Eugenics led us to: the Final Solution. A master race! A perfect person. ... The stuff that we are facing is absolutely frightening."
This list is actually significantly shortened from the list of quotes from Daniel Kurtzman found here. The list also does not include the time Beck urged parents to keep their children out of school on the day President Obama was set to give a speech to schoolchildren; or the time Beck warned of a national civilian security force that would overthrow the government; or the time Beck said the cash for clunkers website was part of a government plot to takeover private computers.
Yet Beck still contends that he is just an average Joe, small town guy speaking his mind for the betterment of the country.

Thanks for the video clip. Normal humans will watch it and agree with what they hear and know that the 'polarized' ones just have 'brain freeze'.
I am missing the point. The quotes do not support your conclusion that Glenn Beck is polarizing. He is doing exactly what he says he is: saying the things that need to be said. If you listen to Beck you will realize he is the opposite of polarizing. He wants Americans to come together and bring America back to be what it was. Read about our founding fathers and you will understand. Beck was certainly articulate, well-spoken, and held his ground in the interview with Leno (giving an impression of sanity) BUT he is neither an average joe nor sane.
Beck is polarizing and helping the elite (ultra-cons) push their agenda. The list and links the author of this article provides are a good source of information that confirms Beck is a polarizing figure.

Glenn Beck is the most "common sense" guy in the media. I want to thank him for his service to our country. His show is so entertaining and informative and I love his chalkboard. :)
I enjoyed it tuned in only because GB was on. Leno has otherwise sold his soul to the democrats.

Let's not forget that Mr. Beck has not responded to the allegation that he raped and killed a young girl in 1990. Personally, I don't believe Glenn Beck raped and killed a young girl in 1990, but the fact that he has not denied this allegation greatly concerns me.

I think it is funny how people have the time to bash beck when they should be out trying to save the world or something... I mean you think that the climate is going to kill us... U think that Obama is the savior of the nation... Go run some protests or something... If all you can do is bash people to push an agenda then you really dont have much substance... get a life
Justin: You know you can "bash" Beck and do other things too. The two are not mutually exclusive. I do find it funny however how you tell people to "get a life" for "bashing" Beck while you simultaneously bash the people who bash Beck. Now who needs to get a life?
Amazing how people want to know Beck's opinion on anything... If I wanted it, I would go to the Goldline website, or read the talking points of the day on the tabloid FoxNation website... He has no independent thought.
It is perfectly clear that those who consider Glenn Beck "polarizing" don't actually listen to him; but rather listen only to his hysterical critics and political enemies.
