Glenn Beck
Glenn Beck is wildly exaggerating and inflating numbers from the recent Tea Party in Washington D.C. In what has become a steady stream of misinformation and half truths, Beck is claiming that 1.7 million people attended the Tea Party Express, numbers that have been firmly repudiated by every respectable news source. The actual numbers are estimated to be in the tens of thousands, with somewhere between 50,000 and 90,000 people in attendance.
Indeed, even the far right FreedomWorks estimate numbers between 600,000 and 800,000, which is a gross exaggeration itself, but pales in comparison to Beck's whopper. Beck made his claim on Fox and Friends this morning, the same program where Beck made his infamous remarks calling President Obama a racist. Remarks Beck has yet to apologize for.
Beck is a cad and a scoundrel, a pied piper to the feeble minded and politically challenged. His pattern of half truth and innuendo has earned him contempt and scorn from intelligent observers. His pathological deception, his hysterics and over wrought antics, appeal to an uneducated, unintelligent audience that lives in suspicion and fear, unable to understand or tolerate change and progress.
This is just more embarrassment and humiliation for Beck. While his audience is high for cable news, which is not saying much, his show is losing money hand over fist. In a bitter irony, advertisers are abandoning Glenn Beck while his ratings are up. Beck has lost over 50% of his advertising revenue due to a boycott started after he called President Obama a racist.
It is a testimony to the vile and repugnant nature of Beck's program that corporations motivated only by profit would pull out of Beck's program. The moral corruption of Beck and his program is simply overwhelming.

Check the available footage of the event and you will see that if anything Beck has (purposely) low balled the numbers.
Independent image analysis done by a midwest university pegged the number at 1.7 million. Comparisons to previous events including BO's coronation/inauguration, The "Million man march" and "Promise Keepers" shows that the number was extremely likely to be 1.5 million people.

From the Capitol building to the Washington monument is 1.2 million people. It was full. People also filled several blocks up Pennsylvania Ave and both side areas of the Capitol. I've seen a crowd of 20,000 people that was far sparser in a space that is 5% the size of the National Mall. I could see the argument that it was only a couple hundred thousand protestors, but claiming that it was in the 50,000 range is simply moronic.
