On Monday, Illinois Judge Robert Kleeman sentenced Glendale Heights bird killer, David Hritz to 90 days in jail and two years probation for aggravated animal cruelty according to the NY Daily News.com.
In August 2012, Hritz, 40, lost control of his temper with his roommate at the 1200 block of Glen Ellyn Road and struck the woman several times with his fists. Then he threw his pet cockatiel named Tootsie across the room striking the wall. And if that wasn't enough, Hritz pulled out his pocketknife and stabbed the pet bird to death.
Hritz was charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of aggravated animal cruelty.
He must also submit to periodic counseling.
According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, abusers of animals are five times more likely to abuse humans. The person who harms animals will harm humans.
