Glen Mazzara reveals why Daryl went with Merle on 'The Walking Dead' (Video)

On the Feb. 10 episode of "The Walking Dead," fans were shocked and some were even angry that Daryl Dixon left the group to be with his brother, Merle. Entertainment Weekly spoke Glen Mazzara about why it happened.

On the show, Daryl was left with a choice. He could either come back to the prison without his brother, or leave the group and stay with Merle. When it was revealed that he was not going to be separated from his brother again, Rick and other characters tried to reason with Daryl, telling him it did not have to be that way. However, Daryl was not hearing them and was too angry to think clearly.

Glen Mazzara said,

"And Daryl doesn't have time to think, so he falls back to that little brother. That old pattern. And this is something that people do in stressful situations, they go back to the old patterns."

When asked if fans would see Daryl Dixon while he was away from the group, "The Walking Dead" showrunner responded,

"Let me say this: After Sophia came out of the barn in season 2, we had Norman’s character retreat a bit and he dropped out of some episodes. Ummm…we won’t do that again. Daryl is front and center. There are a few interesting episodes where we play the storyline a bit. Fans don’t have to worry. There’s more than enough Daryl to go around."

Based on Glen Mazzara's responses, it seems that Daryl Dixon will be front and center. Could that mean he will go back to the prison? Or will the storyline take a detour and focus on the brothers? What do you think will happen?
