On Saturday, Sept. 14, more than 60 amateur barbecue teams will compete for the title of this year’s best pit master. At stake are bragging rights for Best Ribs, Best BBQ Sauce and Best Dish.
Considered the largest amateur barbecue competition in the state, the event is open to the public and admission is free. The hours are from 10 am to 9 pm. In addition to watching pit masters in action, visitors can cast their votes for People's Choice for Best BBQ Sauce.
Barbecue, food and drink vendors will be on hand to complement the full day of blues. This year's lineup includes, Fruteland Jackson, Chainsaw DuPont, Amy Kelly with the Bill Ande Band and Cadillac Dave and his Chicago Redhots.
Back by popular demand is Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ's second annual Bags Tournament. Tournament check-in time is 10:30 am to 11:30 am, with the first round beginning at 11:45 am. Trophies and prizes will be given to the 1st and 2nd place winners.
Besides a day of family fun, the event is also about giving back. All net proceeds from the event are donated to the Bridge Communities, Inc. of Glen Ellyn, a nonprofit grass roots organization committed to transforming the lives of homeless families in DuPage County.
The event is located at Crescent Blvd and Glenwood Ave in downtown Glen Ellyn.
