A Glen Davis injury update reveals that he is going to miss 8-12 weeks due to his broken foot. According to a report from Friday morning (Feb. 1), Davis will have surgery to fix the fractured metatarsal in his left foot. Since there are just 10 weeks remaining in the regular season and it is very unlikely that the Orlando Magic will make the playoffs, it really looks like the season is over for Davis.
This news should make it very easy for fantasy basketball owners to release Davis, especially in leagues where keepers aren't used. Even in keeper leagues, though, Davis doesn't have the value of an elite player to hold on to. It's time to look in another place for points and rebounds for the rest of the regular season, with plenty of time to adjust those rosters before league playoffs get started.
Davis was putting together a pretty respectable season in his first chance to control the low post on his own. He put up a few double-doubles and it really looked like Davis was going to be a player who could average around 17 points and 9 rebounds very consistently. That will have to be revisited next season, so fantasy basketball owners should keep an eye on him when drafts take place.
Consider this quite possibly the final Glen Davis injury update this season, especially with the Orlando Magic very far out of the eighth slot in the Eastern Conference. The team has no need to rush him back and will probably just take its lumps so that they can get a better lottery pick this summer.
