The cast of “Glee” is currently filming the tribute episode to Cory Monteith, and it sounds like it’s been a really tough week. On Aug. 27 E! Online shared some “Glee” spoilers about the episode, and it’s been made clear this will be a really heartbreaking episode.
According to E! Online, there are a number of original cast members returning for the goodbye to Finn Hudson. Expect the characters of Emma, Puck, Mike and Mercedes to all be there, though at this point it doesn’t seem that Quinn or Brittany will be included. The current cast regulars of Coach Bieste along with Burt and Carole will be involved, as well as the others folks would expect.
As for Rachel, played by Lea Michele, information is now out indicating that she actually will only appear in the final segment of the episode. She does sing, and she did share a photograph during filming showing Rachel wearing a “Finn” necklace. This seems to be very similar to the “Cory” necklace Lea is often seen wearing in real life.
Though originally Ryan Murphy planned to have Finn Hudson die of an accidental drug overdose like Cory Monteith did, that has changed. Now the tribute episode won’t explain Finn’s cause of death at all. It seems rather than focus on how he died, the episode will focus on saying goodbye to the beloved “Glee” staple character.
Additional “Glee” spoilers indicate that Finn’s death will happen right away in the episode. This will all happen in the third episode of the season, and it is being called “The Quarterback.” Jane Lynch who plays Coach Sue says that the script is the “Most beautiful thing,” while Naya Rivera and Matthew Morrison have talked about how very difficult it is to work on this episode.
E! Online notes that they’ve been told the script is so amazing that viewers will cry “from beginning to end.” This is going to be an incredibly difficult episode for both the cast and the fans, but it certainly is along the lines of what people would expect from the show. Simply trying to write Finn Hudson off the canvas given what happened to Cory Monteith just never would have felt appropriate.
As for what happens to “Glee” after this episode, nobody is certain yet. Ryan Murphy has indicated that the cast and crew will take a break after filming “The Quarterback” as they try to decide what comes next. The “Glee” tribute to Cory Monteith will air on FOX in early October.
