The fifth season of Glee returns to television on September 26. But the hit show will wait until October 10 to officially pay tribute to castmate Cory Monteith who died this past summer from a drug overdose.
At the Emmy Awards on Sunday, actress Jane Lynch, who plays Coach Sue Sylvester on the show, said, "Tonight we remember Cory for all he was, and mourn the loss of all he could have been. To a generation that loved Cory so, please know, this wonderful and gifted young man was worthy of your love." [MTV]
Glee begins season five with a two-part tribute to the Beatles most memorable album covers. Featured songs will include "Yesterday," "A Hard Day's Night." "All You Need is Love" and more.
Season four ended with Monteith's real life girlfriend Lea Michelle auditioning for "Funny Girl" on Broadway. In the season opening, she's back for a callback.
E! Online reports that "Finn's death on the show will be connected with the late actor's troubled past."
Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said, "The third episode will write Finn out of the show. That episode will deal directly with the incidents involved with Cory's passing and the drug abuse in particular."
The show will not address how the character Finn died.
