“Glee” season 5 premieres in just a couple of weeks and Gleeks at large are waiting to find out if Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) nabs the role of a lifetime. On Aug. 9, series co-creator Ryan Murphy and his leading lady Lea both tweeted slightly different versions of the same location photo of Rachel in NYC in a stunning purple coat looking up at the “Funny Girl” Broadway marquee.
Lea posted more photos yesterday, Sept. 10 which include more scenic New York shots and another angle of her peering up at the marquee.
It’s still not clear, however, if Rachel is going to land the role or if she’s going to have to keep dreaming for a while. What we do know is that singing sensation Demi Lovato is going to join the New York cast and play a girl named Dani, who is also Santana’s love interest.
According to an “Eonline” report, Rachel, Santana and Dani will work together as waitresses. How probable is it that she would star on Broadway and still be a waitress? Stranger things have probably happened …
Unfortunately Rachel, as a character, is also about to endure a life-altering loss once she learns of Finn’s death in the upcoming third episode Cory Monteith tribute. How will this news affect Rachel’s Broadway dreams and her pursuit of them?
Lea Michele, the actress, has proven herself to be so strong in the face of Cory’s sudden death. In his first TVLine interview after Cory’s death, Ryan Murphy noted Lea’s strength saying, “Lea is obviously very grief-stricken but she’s also one of the strongest people I know,” and “She’s also been a rock for many people as well. I've never, ever met a 26-year-old girl or boy who’s capable of doing what she’s done in the past week. I marvel at it.”
In parallel, Rachel Berry’s strength has been the heart and soul of “Glee” and her tenacity to never give up has inspired Gleeks around the globe to listen to the whispers of their own hearts as well. Rachel has been knocked down many times over the course of four seasons and she always digs in her heels and picks herself back up.
Remember what Finn said to her before her call-back audition?
“You're one of the most unique talents in the world. You always shine your brightest when you do something personal, something intimately important that defines you. Just do something that takes you back to the roots of your passion."
Then she delivered the audition of her life with her “Don’t Stop Believin’” reprise, recalling all of her besties during her performance. There is no doubt she shined on that audition stage.
But, Broadway is a tricky business and it’s really rare to get top billing your first time out of the gate. Either way, here’s hoping that Rachel listens to her own advice in the song she sang and that she doesn't stop believing. Because if anyone is destined to become a star on “Glee,” she is. Here’s hoping it’s just a matter of time.
