'Glee': Chris Colfer talks Kurt and Blaine split, Kurt's new love interest

“Glee” star Chris Colfer stopped by “Live with Kelly and Michael” on Jan. 14, on the heels of his People’s Choice Award win for Favorite Comedic TV Actor.

Michael Strahan immediately complimented Colfer on his signature “flip” do and Colfer joked, “The higher the hair the closer to God.”

They discussed the changes on “Glee” with the new locale for Kurt and the young star admitted it’s a much easier schedule to handle, with the storylines split. He said:

“It used to be we’d all be on set all day every day, all week, singing and dancing. Now that the show’s kind of divided, it’s easier for us to have a few days to ourselves while they’re filming something else.”

Kelly Ripa plunged in and asked what’s going on with Kurt and Blaine (Darren Criss) and if they are going to get back together.

Colfer said, “Maybe. I think they’ll get back together eventually. They’re still broken up for now. I think they’re gonna be like Fran and Mr. Sheffield. They’re gonna get together eventually. They’ve gotta do something. They can’t just say I love you every episode. That’d be so boring.”

Chris Colfer and Darren Criss have both gone on record more than once that they are glad for the dramatic opportunity the Klaine split affords their characters. It gives them a chance to keep them interesting and keeps them from falling into the rut of becoming like an old married couple.

The split has indeed caused a ripple among “Gleeks” and diehard Klaine fans, who have very enthusiastically applauded “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy for revolutionizing television by giving them a gay teen couple to relate to with Klaine.

Darren Criss, in fact, was so sensitive to the fans’ reaction that he posted a letter to the fans on his Facebook page before the breakup aired, as a means of encouragement and a thank you for their support.

Ripa went on to ask if Kurt is going to get a new boyfriend and if he thought the fans could accept that.

Colfer said, “I think there’s gonna be some interest coming in.” Then teased, “ I kind of was afraid, because I thought any actor that came in would have their throat slit by the fans. But I think this one guy might have a chance because he’s very funny, very, very charming.”

Colfer is referring to Oliver Kieran-Jones who is joining the “Glee” cast as Adam, the head of the NYADA glee club. Kurt meets him as he finally enters NYADA after a stellar second audition gets him accepted.

As previously reported, Kurt takes Blaine, not Adam, to Will and Emma’s wedding and the former beaus make out in a car.

Ripa and Strahan also discussed Colfer’s latest film project, “Struck by Lightning,” which we wrote, produced and starred in. He said the film is not directly autobiographical, but is based on his frustrations as president of the Writers Club in high school.

The film tells the story of Carson Phillips, a young man who gets struck by lightning and is killed, then he recounts how he blackmailed fellow classmates into writing for his literary magazine.

The film also stars Allison Janney (“The West Wing”), Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”), Dermot Mulroney, and Rebel Wilson (“Bridesmaids,” “Pitch Perfect”), to name a few.

“Struck by Lightning” is currently playing in select theaters and is available to watch on Video on Demand on cable.
