Fans everywhere are shocked and saddened by the news that “Glee” star Cory Monteith is dead. The 31-year old actor was found Saturday in his hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, after he missed his check-out time. Though the cause of death is still unknown, reports reveal that he had expired several hours before being discovered. Friends of his, with whom he was out earlier, have been questioned. Nonetheless, Deputy Chief Doug Lepard of the Vancouver police department stated that fob key and video recordings suggest that he was by himself when he died.
Monteith is best known as Finn Hudson on Fox’s hit musical comedy, which is in its fourth season. The dashing star was often praised for his professionalism on set. His jock-turned-singer character helped the show perpetuate a renewed appreciation for glee clubs. Commonly viewed as the “face” of the program, Monteith also enjoyed an off-screen romance with co-star, Lea Michele.
Cory’s struggles with substance abuse are widely known as well, and apparently began around the age of 13. Confessing that he’d tried “anything and everything”, Monteith entered a treatment facility when he was 19 years old. In April 2013, he admitted himself to rehab once more for substance abuse problems – and since, appeared to be on the mend. No evidence of foul play existed in the actor’s room. An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Monday.
