Etched Glass Holiday Centerpiece
ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape in different widths
A variety of straight glass vases or candle hurricanes
Glass etching cream - can be found at craft stores. Armor Etch was used in this project but any brand cream will work.
Rubber dish washing gloves
Step 1: Wash and dry the glass vases/hurricanes. Clean glass is a must.
Step 2: Decide on a design you would like. Apply different widths of 3M Scotch Blue tape to the glass -
Swirl Design: apply narrow ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape at an angle, wrapping around the glass and spacing evenly around the vase/hurricane.
Bands & Pinstripes: apply varying widths of ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape horizontally around the vases.
Polka dots: use a hole punch to create polka dots in the tape and apply to glass where desired.
Step 3: With the sponge brush, apply a thick and even layer of etching cream to the exposed areas you
want etched. Follow the etching cream manufactures safety guidelines and recommended etching time
listed on the back of the bottle. Always wear you gloves to protect your hands. (Tip: for best results
leave the etching cream on longer than recommended).
Step 4: After etching time has elapsed, wash off the etching cream under warm running water. Gently
rub with a sponge if desired. Remove tape and wash under water again. (Wear your gloves). Dry glass
Step 5: Repeat steps 2-4 to add more designs if desired.
Step 6: Fill your beautiful etched vases with flowers or LED pillar candles for a festive holiday display.
