The 2013 Academy Awards Ceremony was held at the Dolby Theater (formerly the Kodak Theater) in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 24th. Many actresses went for all out glamour and did not disappoint when it came to their gown choices. The accompanying slideshow features many of the highlights. Let’s talk about some of the trends that we saw this time.
Voluminous skirts:
Some of the ladies wore gowns with skirts featuring so much material that they required an assistant to flatten and lay the skirt properly on the red carpet before being photographed. Jennifer Lawrence’s dress had such a large ballgown type skirt that she tripped on it trying to get up the stairs to accept her Oscar for lead actress. Jennifer Garner’s gown had a very large ruffled back that made her dress look uncomfortable to sit in. Amy Adams’ gown had a very large ruffled skirt as well – and when the camera panned past her sitting in the theater all one noticed was that she seemed to disappear in layers and layers of material.
Sparkles and trains:
The other common trend with ladies’ gowns was all-over sequins or chrystals, or skirts with trains. We saw sparkles on Jessica Chastain, Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta-Jones, among others. Dramatic trains were seen on Zoe Saldana, Olivia Munn, and Amanda Seyfried, among others.
The Oscars is always a great event to peek into the world of couture; where we get a glimpse at gowns that take many many hours of work and care to get right. Now enjoy the slideshow!
