Tis the season to glam it up from head to toe. This is the time of year when vanity rules and triumphs, and we really want to own it when we walk into a holiday party or stop to meet friends for a festive toast at a bar.
So in keeping with this thought Richard and I (yes I dragged my man kicking and screaming) headed over to Nelson j. Salon in Beverly Hills for a holiday hair session (caught on camera in the accompanying slideshow). While I knew owner/operator Nelson Chan was going to color and cut my hair, Richard had no idea that along with his trim Chan would surprise him with a bonus tinted rinse that made him look years younger (and more handsome than ever). Nelson kind of snuck the tinted rinse in when Richard wasn’t looking, but he did ask for my nod first, which I gladly gave him. It’s good to have a hairstylist you can trust.
Squirred away in a private room, normally reserved for more famous faces, yours truly received the royal treatment with a fantastic hair glossing color that turned my tresses into shimmering, silky strands of auburn gold, followed by a highly-stylized Chan clipping in just the right way. Nelson’s shop sit just off Bedford Drive, through a little alley at Brighton Way. It’s a warm and cozy spot that offers lots of tress tenderness.
No time for a lengthy session, no worries: You can coif it up for the holidays in 15-minutes flat at the salon with Chan’s new Color Touch Up Bar where the skillful colorist of the stars gets to the ‘root’ of the problem eliminating the gray or other intruding hues.
“After gray hair is colored, it usually starts to grow out in two to three weeks, which means that women (and men) have to quickly come back into the salon to retouch their root area, which can add up in terms of time and monthly expense,” explains the savoir of men and women with visible “root” problems who has come to be known as the a root specialist. “The same problem occurs with ‘roots’ or re-growth, which is usually darker hair that is visible only at the root area. That’s why Nelson j Salon developed simple, affordable, and quick color touch up systems for this specific area, which takes only 15 minutes. The first service is a Base Color Retouch, which costs $49 but does not include a blowout.
If dark roots are starting to show the salon offers the Partial Sun-Kissed Highlights also for $49, which is accomplished in 15 minutes flat.
Tress technicians at Nelson j’s service a varied group of clients who range from modern busy executives, part-hopping socialites, time-deprived industry regulars, stay-at-home moms, to celebrities who expect camera ready results in a minimum of time. In addition to hair care the salon offers massages and mani-pedis.
