Gladys Knight, LL Cool J among music artists at the NAACP Image Awards (Photos)

The NAACP Image Awards were held on Friday, February 1 in Los Angeles. The awards celebrate achievements by people of color in all aspects of the entertainment industry, including motion pictures, music, television and more. The show was hosted by Steve Harvey, with Dennis Haysbert as the in- show announcer.

Kerry Washington was the night's biggest winner, taking home three awards; for her role in the film "Django Unchained," for her role as Olivia Pope in ABC's "Scandal." Washington's humanitarian efforts to support minority representation during the 2012 Presidential election were also recognized by The NAACP with the President's Award. Washington's show, Scandal" won Outstanding Drama Series. The series, created by Shondra Rhimes, features the first African American female lead on a network television show in 40 years. The award was presented to Washington by actress Diahann Carroll. Carroll is the first African American Female lead, starring in "Julia" from 1969 - 1972.

Performing on the show were music icon Gladys Knight sang her classic rendition of "The Way We Were" during the show's memoriam segment.

Wyclef Jean and Common also took the stage to perform "Day-O" the signature song by of Harry Belafonte who received the Spingran Metal Award.

Music winners included the late Whitney Houston who won two awards for Outstanding Album ("I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston") and Outstanding Song ("I Look To You" with R. Kelly).

Alicia Keys won two awards for Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Music Video ("Girl On Fire").

Mary Mary won two awards for Outstanding Gospel Album and Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration.

Other music winners included Elle Varner, Usher, Estelle, Unsung, Black Girls Rock and Smash.

Music artists who won awards in non music related cateogories included Jamie Foxx who was named Entertainer of The Year, LL.Cool J for Outstanding Actor In a Drama Series for "NCIS: Los Angeles", and Vanessa Williams for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy for "Desperate Housewives"
