National retailer The Limited has teamed up with Shonda Rhimes' hit ABC TV series Scandal - including the series' lead actress, Kerry Washington, and costume designer, Lyn Paolo - to create a power collection for fall. The collection will be inspired by the lead gladiator on the show, Olivia Pope, not only known for her quick-witted, disaster-control skills but also her soft power wardrobe. Twitter timelines on Thursday nights during the season is lit with commentary on the show as it airs. It is also full of questions and interaction between the cast of the show and the gladiator fans. Those questions include, without fail, questions on who the cast is wearing. Can you guess who Olivia will be wearing this fall? Most likely, The Limited.

This is the first-ever design collaboration between a national retailer, a top-rated network TV show, its costume designer and leading lady. We have seen a diverse set of collaborations emerge in the last decade between retailers and high-end designers, i.e. the well known Target and H&M collaborations, as well as pop stars and retailers, as seen with Kmart and Adam Levine and Nicki Minaj. But a television series and a retail collaboration is new territory. It is also the first design collaboration for Washington and Paolo, the duo credited for creating powerful looks for Olivia Pope.

“By creating a line inspired by the show, we are introducing a collection that embodies the elegance and power of the Scandal aesthetic for real-life gladiators and everyday fashionistas,” said Washington. “The collection is a nod to our devoted fans, to fans of fashion and to women everywhere who are inspired to boldly pursue their passions and look good while doing it.”

So what can we expect? "We believe the collection tells a story of confidence and professional sophistication as well as maintaining a strong feminine point of view," describes Paolo. Suits and wrap around coats and jackets in white and neutral tones, hues for which Olivia Pope is well known. We can also guess that teal will find itself on the color palette of the collection set to be released in late September.

"Olivia Pope’s signature wardrobe is well represented by tailored wide leg trousers, separate jackets with strong lines and signature trims, chic feminine blouses, and heroic outerwear pieces," The Limited head designer Elliot Staples tells us in detail.

The collection will start and $49 and will be available at all national retail stores as well as online. We have marked our calendars.
