While co-star Taylor Lautner says Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson doesn't need workout advice, according to Project Runway's Tim Gunn he definitely needs help on the fashion side.
If the star wants to make a true impression, says Liz Claiborne's Chief Creative Officer Tim Gunn, he's going to have to transform his "sloppy" look.
Fashion guru Gunn, also co-star to Heidi Klum on TV's Project Runway, says of Pattinson's almost there with his looks but not yet.
"He could be stunning, but I think it’s (his look) a little sloppy for my taste," Gunn said.
Because Pattinson is in the spotlight whether he likes it or not, we've put together a bit of a brush-up for his fitness fashion.
We found the photo at the left on JustJared.net of the star sporting his usual casual look and figured since him and weight-room buddy Chaske Spencer often go head-to-head in resistance training match-ups, we've consulted the best in exercise advice and fitness gear for men to give Pattinson some tips for look casual without looking dumpy in between sets and on the set of his new flick, Remember Me.
Askmen.com's Chris Rovny is the online mag's fashion consultant. He may not be Tim Gunn but he had some great tips to pass on to guys like Pattinson. Rovny says to his readers, "With work taking up most of your time, your training sessions can become very important in terms of socializing with the ladies."
For Rovny, these are the basic tips to keep men looking good while workout out hard.
1. Stay on Tops. Rovy notes that your gear should be stylish, not torn and tattered. "Avoid wearing multicolored T-shirts that don't match the color of your pants and/or sneakers," Rovny says. "Your entire ensemble should consist of 2 or 3 colors or tones. Any combination above 3 colors will likely lead to a fashion disaster." As for the colors of the tops you choose, avoid flashy logos. Instead, says Rovny, "wear T-shirts with discreet logos such as Reebok, Puma, Adidas, and the famous Nike swoosh . A small logo on the chest or back of your tee is classy, subtle and will match the rest of your training gear."
2. Bottoms Up. When it comes to pants, you already know to steer clear of hammer pants, but for the most stylish in gym wear with the best functionality, Rovny says shorts are the better option. "When you're scheduled to work out your legs and/or do cardio, it's wise to wear shorts. They allow a greater range of motion and better air circulation. You'll find a wide variety of shorts that offer support, comfort and style." And when it's a leg day or your just sporting a stylish look without actually working out, opt for pants. Rovny recommends fabrics that are a mix of cotton with spandex or polyester. "These stretch materials make the shorts fit perfectly," says Rovny. To keep the look of track pants trendy, Rovny suggests looking for details. "Look for drawstrings in the waistband and/or around your ankles. Other neat accessories are zippers, buttons and different pockets. Thicker and modern fabrics such as nylon will give your track pants more durability while adding to your trendy look."
3. Running for Your Life. Ah, the shoes. Pattinson usually opts for black, fashion-style sneaks but Rovny says there are better options out there - For style and functionality. "Simplicity and comfort are key. Minimize the amount of colors and flashiness, and buy shoes that will serve their purpose. If you are a runner, don't buy DKNY running shoes just because they look good. Instead, opt for running shoes that are specifically designed for running."
So with Twilight almost here and Pattinson's new movie Remember Me to begin filming soon after, we've made these picks for Pattinson's strolls through the streets of NYC...
Pondering for Pattinson, a good place to start was Vickerey's Vic Pics (shown above). The site updates recommendations for working combinations of style and comfort. Our personal favorite was the color of the Prana Lynwood Hoodie, which would spice up Pattison's usual "stormy" colored palette. In addition to the Vic Picks above, we thought Pattinson would make us sweat even more if he exchanged his baggy sweats for Kung Fu Lululemon pants (shown left) - In black would both please the ladies and please Tim Gunn.
As far as shoes go, Pattinson can stick with Nike's but with all that New York city walking, he might want to upgrade to a more functional pair - Like Nike's Zoom Structure Triax+ 12 iD (4E) Men's Running Shoe.
