Giving is fashionable: Support Haiti locally

It is fashionable to care and give when others are in need. With the recent earthquake and devastation in Haiti, giving is of the utmost importance. For as little as the cost of a manicure, or the price of a new handbag, you can make a difference in this crisis.

Quake and disaster relief efforts are underway through various Los Angeles-based organizations. To give a monetary donation to the Caribbean country, contact:

American Red Cross Greater Los Angeles
Yesterday, the Red Cross announced that they are contributing $1 million from the International Response Fund to support the Haiti relief operations. The contribution will allow Red Cross to open its warehouse in Panama, and to provide essentials such as tarps and cooking sets for approximately 5,000 families. However, additional aid will be needed to continue the relief efforts.

For your convenience, The Red Cross has set up three easy ways to make your donations:

  • Text - You can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti
  • Online – Monetary donations can be made through the Red Cross International donation page
  • Phone - You can make a donation by calling 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish)
