Even though the gifts are not our main focus at Christmastime, most of us partake in the tradition. Many have a gift giving budget they adhere to. Here are some ideas of gifts to give without blowing your budget.
Give the gift of time:
If you enjoy babysitting or are a tradesman or woman of sorts, you can make up a coupon book to give to a friend or family member.
If you would like to donate your time babysitting for someone, put together a coupon or coupon book where they can take advantage of your service for a certain time.
If you are a hairdresser you can give a coupon for a free haircut.
Say you are a plumber you can make up a coupon for a free service. You get the idea… give your time and knowledge as a gift.
Gift of talents:
If you croquet or knit, you can make a special gift for someone by hand. In order to purchase your supplies to do this, you can use 40% off coupons that come in the Sunday paper to your local arts and crafts stores. If you purchase 1 item each week you can spend a minimal amount of money on your supplies.
Printable gifts:
Take some of your best and favorite recipes and enter them into your computer. Print them out and compose your own special cookbook for friends and family. You can add pictures and design your own cover. If you have a binding machine (about $20) you can punch and bind them yourself. You can invest in the binding machine and plastic binders and make a new cookbook each year by adding your new favorite recipes! Your family will come to look forward to the new cookbook each year.
Another option would be to print your recipes onto 4x6 index cards. You can tie them together with a ribbon and give them as a gift.
Kitchen gifts:
Make your own hot chocolates, jams, jellies, spices, or baked goods. Package them in festive Christmas containers or jars and give as gifts. Everyone enjoys gifts from the kitchen.
You can get even more creative and make gifts in a jar from soups to cookies. How about jarring or packaging up some homemade bread crumbs as a gift? The possibilities are endless.
Photo gifts:
Take a family picture with your digital camera. Have copies printed. Pictures are fairly inexpensive to have printed. Using your 40% off coupons, purchase frames throughout the year for the pictures. Give a framed photo as a gift.
Gifts from the children:
Have your children draw a special picture and frame it for family and/or friends. Have them sign and date it to make it extra special.
