Pie in the Sky is a country store and a whole lot more, located in the rural farming town of Hastings, Florida. Their mission is to connect people with resources and facilitate long term solutions that affect the lives of the elderly, poor, and underserved in our community.
Pie in the Sky is an effort to help farm workers and the community of Hastings through something simple -pie. All profits from the sales of their various types of pie go straight back to the community in the form of little things that make a big difference. They also organize a food distribution from items donated by local businesses.
Recently, Pie in the Sky has formed a partnership with Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL. This partnership will help expand their efforts in Hastings by opening up new opportunities. These students have helped in so many ways, from building a wheelchair ramp and planting flowers to designing a new brochure and making a new website.
The Fourth Annual Great American Scarecrow Festival was held on October 12 at Simple Gestures on Anastasia Island. The event was a fun-filled day for the entire family to help fund programs for Pie in the Sky. There was scaercrow making, bobbing for apples, pumpkin decorating, music, and much more.
In November, they will be gearing up for annual "Cold Feet Don't Care" Campaign, collecting socks and work boots to give to the farm workers in the community at the annual "From the Heart" celebration for the men and women who work so hard all year round in the fields. We are looking for volunteers for the daylong event, which will be held in Hastings on February 16, 2014.
Ongoing efforts include the collection of canned goods for delivery to elderly homebound residents and of course cash donations are always welcome. You can also help by making a purchase from their website
