We talked to the CEO of First My Family and emergency preparedness expert, Andrew Torres about tips and, of course, “The Walking Dead”:

Did any of you go through a natural disaster or emergency that brought on the inspiration for the survival kit? Actually, my career in emergency planning began when I was in high school. I was biking to work during the summer and helped pull a woman out of a burning car that was involved in a car accident. From that I always wanted to help people and have focused my career on it, including building our survival kits.

Here in Texas, what comes across the most are tornadoes. Any tips for preparedness? Sure. I think the most important thing you would need in Texas for tornadoes is early communication and a warning system. That is why we sell our high quality emergency radios. Each one is a NOAA emergency weather band radio and would alert you during a tornado alert or warning (if turned on).

Which of you is a bigger “Walking Dead” fan and why? That is hard to say but I would say we are both equal on this standpoint. Angie loves the characters and I love the stories. Last night’s [Sunday, March 16, “The Grove”] episode with Carol was dramatic for both of us.

In the highly unlikely chance a walker apocalypse, what advice can you give for our best chance of survival? If this were to happen, the best thing I could say would be to RUN and have a grab and go kit, like our family kits at www.firstmyfamily.com or our fantastic TWD Survival Kit.

If we had more room in our 72hr survival kit, what items do you recommend we include? We would include a water treatment system or pump, small bills, longer lasting food supplies, access to fresh water, duct tape, window plastic covering, nails and tools, small bottles of alcohol and cigarettes to trade, personal protection, personal hygiene items, dog good and a safe place.

Lastly, share your favorite “Walking Dead” characters with us.” We figured this out last night. It’s Carol for sure. Really looking forward to seeing what happens with her character.
