Ever since the debut of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's the "Little Black Dress" has become a style staple in every woman's closet. This dress is such a classic that it can be worn almost every where to almost anything. however, it seems that many women have become stuck in a LBD rut; always styling it the same way or wearing it to certain occasions. However, it does not have to be so! Because the LBD is so simple and in a neutral color (hello, anything goes with black!) it can be turned into the perfect canvas for some awesome accessories. Here are some ideas that I have come up with that fit every mood and every personality all based around this amazing A-Line black dress from Dorothy Perkins. Not only is it flirty and pretty, but this shape flatters every body shape, not to mention it is only $28!
- Uptown Chic. This is the most typical way to style the LBD. Think of those fashionable french girls or, as the name says, those girls uptown who somehow always look like the have a whole team getting them ready for the day. Start with the Dorothy Perkins dress, or your own personal favorite LBD. Pair it with a waist belt with a gold accent to really draw attention to your natural waist line and give you the perfect hourglass shape. Add a nice little scarf, a pair of strappy heels, some delicate gold bracelets and a "box-bag" in a popping color such as red for some elegant contrast. Put together, you will definitely look like you are the new Audrey Hepburn, super classy!
- Sporty Chic. This look is perfect for the girl who wants to look "girly", but is constantly on the run...for example a college girl. To achieve this look, start with the essential staple...the LBD. Add to it a varsity style jackets, a colorful neon backpack, some color sneakers (like Vans) and a colorful bracelet. the varsity jacket gives the usually "classy" dress a sporty feel that is totally unique and super cool. the sneakers will allow you to run around all day without having your feet complain and the backpack and colorful bracelet are the perfect accessories because they are minimal, but still make a statement.
- Office Chic. For the girl who runs errands and sits at a desk, but still wants to look adorable while doing it all...here is you LBD recipe. Take your dress, add to it an adorable blazer preferably with a print (like polka dots), a tote that will fit the files that you need to lug around, a gold chain necklace to add some pizzazz, a pair of loafer shoes and glasses (just to add that Lois Lane touch). This look is wonderful and perfect for the office. The blazer makes it office appropriate and keeps you comfortable, especially if there is central AC. The tote is a classic bag and it fits all your essentials in it and the loafer shoes are comfortable to run around in while also adding a "men's-look" touch to the very feminine look.
So, next time you are sitting in your closet wondering when the next dinner party will be just so that you can throw on that timeless LBD, reconsider your options and try to style it in a new way!
