Presenting a holiday gifting opportunity that has the power to sustain the quality of life of underserved youth and their families by delivering academic, emotional and physical wellness: donate to A World Fit For Kids! (WFIT), a Los Angeles-based afterschool provider for 10,000 students a year grades k-12.

Going into its 20st year of operation in 2014, WFIT’s mission to ‘Prepare young people for fit and fulfilling lives’ is delivered through academic support, physical activity and nutrition education that is grounded in State-of-the-art youth development program criteria, particularly mentoring from healthy adult role models.

Notably, academic support includes interdisciplinary content aligned to the state of California’s recent adoption of the Common Core curriculum. Physical activity focuses on Quality programming that ensures a physically and emotionally safe environment, full inclusion, and accommodation for developmental differences, and nutrition education—Nourishing Matters—features youth and parent education, a fresh fruit and vegetable exchange, and on-site gardens.

WFIT’s program delivery aligns to several State-of-the-Art youth development program criteria, including, empowering youth, helping youth envision positive futures for themselves, providing significant contact with a caring adult, and treating youth as resources to be developed.
One significant program feature that exemplifies principles of the criteria is providing the opportunity for older youth to engage in cross-age teaching with younger youth—high school kids delivering programming to elementary kids under the supervision of the staff. This mentors youth leadership, self-esteem, and workforce readiness; and offers unique experiences in which the youth leaders and the adult staff can strengthen their bonds.

As evidenced by it’s recent program evaluation, WFIT delivers results. Across its three elementary, four middle and four high school sites, WFIT participants improved their physical activity, capacity to make healthy food and beverage choices, social-emotional wellness and academic skills. More specifically, WFIT programming helps to combat childhood obesity, prevent bullying and gang involvement, and improve high school graduation rates.

Your donation will be used to provide a caring adult mentor and healthy role model for the kids, and Mentors in Motiontm training for teens, which prepares them to be positive role models/mentors, graduate, and then go on to higher education and enter the workforce.

The ultimate gift is the one that can sustain the well-being of others. Your donation to WFIT will improve the quality of life of thousands of underserved kids and their families.
