Give me the sun, the moon and the stars

Now I’ll admit that I’m often a bit slow to catch on but somehow the old gold-topped matte midnight blue bottle of Lagerfeld’s 90’s women’s fragrance Sun, Moon, Stars was revamped and reformulated and repackaged into a shiny cobalt blue bottle with a pewter top that sits on a star-shaped base! I remember seeing the gorgeous astronomically inspired original bottle in the 1990’s but did not know that the perfume had since been discontinued.

As with many relaunches, the new version of Chanel Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld’s women’s cologne Sun Moon Stars seems to have been reformulated, with a clear divide in opinion between those who love the old version and those who prefer the cleaner, simpler new version. Many have attested to the fact that the old formulation lost its top note too quickly, especially if not stored properly – especially if placed somewhere where there was direct sunlight. The new version seems to be longer-lasting both on the wearer and on the shelf, with a pretty decent sillage as well.

However, for those who want to give the reformulation a try or are curious how Sun Moon Stars has changed, the notes are apparently quite the same. Sun Moon Stars’ top notes are decidedly fruity-floral to include juicy peach, bergamot, pineapple, freesia, orange blossom, lotus and even rice. At its heart are jasmine, orange blossom, carnation, lily of the valley, orchid, iris, daffodil and heliotrope, with sandalwood, amber, cedar, musk and vanilla lingering at its base.

The nose behind Sun Moon Stars is Sophia Grojsman, who has also formulated similar perfumes Tresor by Lancome, Eternity by Calvin Klein, Diamonds & Rubies by Elizabeth Taylor, True Love by Elizabeth Arden and Volupte by Oscar de la Renta. But of course, none of them have such a gorgeous bottle as does the astronomical Sun Moon Stars!

On a personal note, to me this perfume bottle with its cobalt blue glass, astronomical motif and pewter top as well as the list of tasty ingredients that go into this elixir, pretty much sums up everything I love in one yummy package! If that is possible to achieve in one fragrance alone…

So promise her the sun, the moon and the stars but give her Sun Moon Stars by Lagerfeld! Especially if she’s into perfumes, astronomy and cobalt glass!
