As College Football season kicks off this week … millions of cheering fans will respond with the instructions from the Cheer Leaders and shout back “Y” or whatever letters they yell out; entrepreneurs, CEO’s and business owners from around the World should sit up and take heed.
Leaders across the spectrum, successful leaders know their “Why” … Friedrich Nietzsche said, “He who has a why can endure any how.”
In my Coaching with businesses and individuals I’m surprised how few leaders really know their “Why’s.” During my fact finding interviews I always ask them these questions:
• Where are you driving your business in the next 2-3 years?
• What do you love about your business?
• What do you hate about your business?
• Why are you in this business?
• What do you really, really want from this business?
I’ll “drill down” after each response, with a follow up similar to this, “and what will that get you and why is it important?” as they get more specific, I follow up with, “and why is that important.” You get the point, but, more importantly, they get the point!
Financial gain, freedom, independence, control, etc are the “easy” answers … back to Nietzsche’s can endure any how I believe that why has to be very real, to your very core and when we speak of “any how” it transcends 60 hour weeks; raiding personal family savings; weeks or months (hopefully not) years of NO salary for you the owner – sacrifice of time, money and energy.
Knowing your personal WHY will allow you to pursue your dream with clarity, focus and determination through any HOW, anything short of that will not produce the results you are looking for or the benefits you can achieve otherwise.
Our processes to assist you in determining your WHY are well honed, we’ve helped hundreds of clients discover theirs and will certainly help you.
