Even for those of us who proclaim ourselves to be Christians, we often have a difficult time in making Christ the center of our lives. We get up, head off to work, shuffle job and family, bills and recreation only to find ourselves depleted at the end of the day. Our relationship with the Savior can become an afterthought at times for which we find ourselves feeling guilty.
This year, give Christ priority status in your life. Really concentrate on the intimate relationship that you share with Him. Let Him be the first thought in your mind upon awaking. Start your day with a prayer of thanksgiving for the coming day as you petition Him to be with you and give you strength for whatever comes your way.
Here are 5 ways to help strengthen your relationship with Christ:
-Read your Bible. The Bible is God’s living word to us. The words contained within have the power to transform your life, opening your eyes to what God wants for you. Spend a few moments each day delving into His word. Don’t just read the words, however. Take them into your soul, and learn from them.
-Pray. Prayer is another way to transform and heal not only your life, but the lives of others. It is the ultimate in spirituality, for it gives us a direct way to commune with God. Also, remember that prayer can occur at any time. You can say simple prayers throughout the day as you go about your routine activities. This is a good habit to get into because it is a constant reminder of Who you belong to and Who is ultimately in control.
-Fellowship with other Christians. Most people do this be attending a church, but there are Christians everywhere. Make friends with other believers. When you surround yourself with other Christians, you gain strength from one another.
-Serve others. No matter what your vocation in life is, take the time to serve others. There are numerous ways to do this. You can serve those in your family, or volunteer to serve others who are less fortunate. When you help someone who is in need, you are demonstrating the love of Christ to the world.
-Experience nature. Go for a walk in the forest. Stand on top of a mountain. Smell the flowers. Listen to the birds singing. Watch the ocean waves crash to shore. When you experience nature, you are experiencing the very handiwork of God.
