Giuliana Rancic: 'Giuliana and Bill' stars put marriage first, then their baby

Giuliana Rancic told US Weekly that she and her husband Bill put their relationships before anything else: including their infant son, The Huffington Post reported Thursday.

Giuliana Rancic spent years trying to have a baby and for a long time it was the focal point of her reality show "Giuliana and Bill". Eventually, they used a gestational surrogate to have their son Duke last summer.

"We're husband and wife, but we're also best friends, and it's funny because a lot of people, when they have kids, they put the baby first, and the marriage second," Giluliana told Us Weekly on Tuesday. "That works for some people. For us, I find, we put our marriage first and our child second, because the best thing we can do for him is have a strong marriage."

The 38-year-old, who married her husband in Capri, Italy, in 2007, added, “I always say to Bill, ‘You were my first baby,’ because he was! He was my first love and my first baby and Duke is my second baby.”

Anyone who has children with someone will tell you that it's important to keep your relationship alive with your spouse or even your significant other. However, the needs of an adult man and the needs of an infant are very different.

Giuliana told The Hollywood Reporter that "when you go through something like [having a baby], your spouse either sinks or swims, and Bill definitely proved he’s a swimmer. I mean, he swam the English Channel in this one, so he’s a pretty incredible person".

In October, she revealed they are hoping to welcome baby No. 2 soon. She has frozen embryos available and plans to use a gestational surrogate again.
