TV personality Giuliana Rancic eats more junk food and works out less since overcoming breast cancer two years ago. Rancic, 39, says she became more relaxed in her approach to diet and exercise after undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in 2011.
"Life is to be enjoyed, not to be spent in the gym every day, and not to be counting your calories," Rancic told the HuffingtonPost Oct. 3. "Before I got the breast cancer I was actually pretty diligent about my diet, and I tried to eat very healthy foods and exercise every day."
While many people become more health-conscious after overcoming cancer, Giuliana went in the opposite direction, presumably after realizing that her healthy lifestyle had failed to prevent her breast cancer (it's unclear whether she smoked or had a family history of cancer).
"I think you go one of two ways," she said. "Some people, I think it was Christina Applegate, who said that she became very diligent about her health afterwards. I kind of went the other way. I eat lots of bread and different things and I don't exercise as much."
Rancic discovered she had cancerous growths in both breasts as she was about to undergo a third round of in-vitro fertilization after several failed attempts at getting pregnant. She stopped IVF, got a double mastectomy, and underwent six weeks of radiation. She welcomed a baby boy, Duke, in August 2012 via a surrogate.
Giuliana has been married to reality TV star Bill Rancic, 42, since 2007. In November, Bill will run the 2013 New York City Marathon to raise funds for breast-cancer research. The Rancics hope to have another child via surrogate in the near future.
Meanwhile, Giuliana slammed rumors that she's anorexic after fans commented on the dramatic amount of weight she has lost since 2010. Rancic credits her pin-thin figure to a fast metabolism — not starvation diets.
"All these people were commenting, 'She's so skinny, eat a sandwich, eat a burger,' " she recounts. "I eat a lot and I take walks and I have a faster metabolism. I'm not trying to be cocky. Anyone who knows me knows I am the least arrogant person. I'm just trying to be honest."
