Here are a couple of signs that the clock is ticking toward winter. The weather is getting colder and girls high school hockey began practice Monday throughout Minnesota.
The Rec center was busy with female athletes getting ready for the upcoming season. On the East Rink, 14 skaters and two goalies went through drills for the St. Louis Park Orioles. Donnie Williams, about to begin his third season as head coach, guided the Orioles who went 4-19-3 last season.
Over on the West Rink, there were approximately 30 prospective players who were getting ready for the Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights season. No word on whether their top player Kelly Pannek was in attendance. She's also a member of the girls soccer team that beat the Mankato West Scarlets in Monday's Class A semifinals 5-1. Last season, BSM went 25-3 and lost to eventual state champion Minnetonka in the section 6AA championship game.
St. Louis Park opens their regular season Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 against the St. Paul Blades at the Rec Center and BSM gets underway Tuesday, November 12 when they take on the Breck Mustangs in a 7:30 game at Anderson Arena in Golden Valley.
