Girls Gone Wild filed for bankruptcy. The company did so to protect it from a $10.3 million debt claimed by Steve Wynn’s Wynn resort in Las Vegas, reports The Wall Street Journal on Feb. 28. Reportedly, Girls Gone Wild creator, Joe Francis allegedly failed to pay a $2 million gambling debt he supposedly incurred during a February 2007 trip to the resort. In addition, in 2012, the resort got a $7.5 million judgment for defamation "stemming from Francis’s public attack falsely accusing Wynn of deceiving customers."
Has Joe Francis figured out a way to take advantage of the legal system? "Francis has effectively evaded meaningful collection by making it appear that he has virtually no income or assets, despite his publicly lavish lifestyle," said Wynn's attorneys. "Francis claims to know nothing about his finances, despite living a luxurious lifestyle that includes living in a multi-million dollar home in Bel Air, regular use of a multi-million dollar estate in Mexico, while regularly being seen at expensive restaurants and clubs."
Anyone who is familiar with Girls Gone Wild's Joe Francis knows the 39-year-old's history has not been free of legal problems, including tax evasion and jail time. Being acquainted with the legal system, perhaps Joe has gotten good at ways to protect his millions? The Wynn resort goes after the Girls Gone Wild franchise, and Francis claims he won't be affected. "I was not involved in the bankruptcy filing and my personal finances are not affected at all," said Francis.
Do you think Joe Francis will continue to make headlines with various legal troubles?
