A while back the story of 9-year old Dafne from Mexico giving birth, had circulated the web. Many, shocked that a 9-year old had been impregnated, successfully carried a healthy child to term, then delivered via c-section without obvious complication, to a 5.7lb girl. The father, according to the Toronto Sun, was reportedly 17, and Dafne's mother claimed the girl had become pregnant at age 8. The girl claimed their relationship was consensual.
But according to Associate Press today, the story has changed. Jalisco officials say Dafne is not 9, but rather somewhere closer to 12 or 13. Tests were done to confirm her age; a birth certificate was unavailable.
In an added twist, it has been confirmed that her 17-year old 'boyfriend' is not actually the father. DNA tests of the child pointed to Dafne's 44-year old step-father, who is now under arrest.
Had Dafne been 9 when she delivered, she still would not have been the youngest mother ever reported. Lina Medina, according the Wikipedia, is currently the youngest known mother on record, giving birth at age 5 years, 7 months, and 17 days. The father of her child was never established.
