A girl was trapped in a washing machine for several minutes before a customer noticed her. The incident took place at Le's Washateria laundromat in Pasadena, Texas. Although the child was airlifted to a Houston hospital with multiple injuries, she is expected to survive the harrowing incident.
A customer at Le's Washateria initially thought the child was an article of clothing "flopping" around inside the machine, according to a Sept. 3, 2014 report by WIAT. Thankfully, someone took a closer look at the load spinning inside the machine and realized that something was very, very wrong. An employee at Le's Washateria stopped the washing machine during the rinse cycle by using the circuit breaker, and the girl was freed.
Authorities have not determined how the five-year-old girl got trapped in the washing machine, but police are investigating. They want to know who was watching the child at the time of the incident. Vance Mitchell of the Pasadena Police spoke with the media about the young Texas girl trapped in the washing machine.
"Unfortunately she spun around in that washing machine for several minutes and apparently it was on high speed…she was tumbling pretty fast in there…. one person walked by and said they saw something flopping around in there they thought it was just a dress or something because it was moving pretty fast."
Earlier in the day, the manager of Le's Washateria had told a female customer that the machine in question was not working properly. The manager told police that he refunded her money.
