Girl Scout Cookies: There's an app for that

Girl Scouts are incorporating today’s technology into their business model with a new, high-tech cookie finder app for iPhone and Android devices. The free app allows cookie enthusiasts to find the nearest cookie booth with the 16 cookie varieties for sale.

Reported by ABC news, this operation cost $790 million, enforcing Girl Scouts as the largest girl-led business in the world. This new strategy has opened up business channels and marketing opportunities across various platforms.

According to survey research conducted by the Girl Scouts organization, the primary reason customers weren't purchasing cookies was their inability to find any girl scouts selling the cookies. Unless your child, kids in your neighborhood or family friends were selling cookies, you really had no way of purchasing them.

Safety intact, the app does require a few clicks before consumers are connected with a list of the nearest places to buy their cookies. Locations are found using smartphone GPS’ or by entering a ZIP code. Cookie shoppers are able to indicate how far they’re willing to travel and when they want to buy their favorite cookies. The app allows users to sort through the search results by location and date.

This information will allow marketing research to understand their customer base on new levels, and analyze business potential in more precise and effective ways.

The Girl Scouts organization prides itself in teaching the girls life-long skills in goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics and people skills. These values translate into the app as well. The app offers tips on how to interact and do business with a Girl Scout, and it encourages customers to broaden their cookie range and ask about the cookie inventory.

This is an exciting new innovation for Girl Scout cookie lovers that is sure well worth its wait.
