Yes, it’s that time of year again. Girl Scouts are setting up shop outside local stores across the country to sell their cookies. The 2013 Girl Scout cookie program is in full swing and troops have already picked up their boxes. So, if you haven’t yet ordered your box of Thin Mints, it’s not too late, especially with mobile apps that find near-by cookie sales.
The Girl Scout cookie program is an important facet of Girl Scouts because it provides needed funds for troop activities and community service projects, and equips scouts with marketing, customer service and goal-setting skills.
According to the official Girl Scout cookie website …
It's about the skills and learning a girl gains from interacting directly with you. It's about the experience of running her own cookie business and working with others. It's the reason we don't sell cookies online. And it's why we encourage you to buy your cookies from a girl—the Cookie Professional—and not her parents.
Once again, the Girl Scouts are going high tech with its annual cookie program. The free Cookie Locator lets you find cookie sales close to your home. Simply head to the website, enter your zip code, and booth locations will pop up. In addition, free mobile apps for Android and Apple iPhones will determine your GPS location and find nearby cookie sales. You can then map your way to a cookie booth and share the results with friends.
The 2013 assortment of Girl Scout cookies includes:
- Thin Mints: Round mint-flavored cookies covered in dark chocolate
- Samoas: Carmel and toasted coconut-covered cookies
- Tagalongs: Peanut butter cookies covered in rich chocolate
- Trefoils: Shortbread cookies shaped like the iconic trefoil
- Do-si-dos: Sandwich cookies with crunch oatmeal on the outside and creamy peanut butter inside
- Lemonades: Shortbread cookies topped with lemon icing
- Savannah Smiles: Zesty lemon-flavored cookies dusted with powdered sugar
- Thanks-A-Lot: Tasty shortbread cookies with fudge on the bottom
Girl Scout cookies are available through March and cost $3.50 per box in Atlanta. Prices may vary across the country because each region sets the price. Be sure to check out the video (above and to the left) featuring an original rap by Dana Marie about Girl Scout cookies. It’s great!
