Girls Night should be at least once a week, and for me, it’s been all week. Literally. I spent the latter part of the week, basking in three thousand count silk and cotton bed sheets at the Sheraton Hotel Society Hill. My best friend was here on business, so who can refuse a “can you keep me company request and join me in my suite? - not me! We dined at random Malaysian restaurants on Chestnut Street and bothered room service to death for more terry cloth robes and slippers. It was that kind of tough week for me, and I bet for everyone since the Moon disappears from plain sight leaving you to see the planets at their brightest ( don’t worry it will return on the 13th!). Times like this calls for ordering everything on the menu at your favorite restaurant creating the ultimate stay-cation while still going to work during the day and jacuzzi sessions at night.
I visited the dentist this week as well. Upon arrival, I was greeted by this huge impressionist mural in the waiting room. Lots of blues, greens and magenta hues mixed together for a oasis of good vibes. I knew I was in for a treat just by the multiple reminder text messages I received throughout the day. After a full day of work and walking around the city, I was surprised to discover my dentist was actually a spa as well! The sweet aroma of lavender filled the entire office accompanied by soft music to the likes of Jill Scott pandora station. My technician who took my teeth X rays offered me a paraffin lavender wax treatment prior to starting my exam! I happily dipped both my hands into a pot of hot wax. Plastic bags were tied around my hands along with mittens. The warm sensation of the wax felt delightful and brought about instant relaxation! What can really go wrong with a exam done in these conditions? Dr. Shimma Abdulla came bopping in the room, all bright eyed with perfect eyebrows and fresh-looking skin. She's no ordinary dentist. The environment she created with all these added bonuses made my experience that much more special. She told me my teeth were beautiful, and that my upper wisdom teeth needed to be extracted soon- or else I would start growing fangs, straight out of the sides of my jaw! My exam was completed with a hot lavender towel to dry my hands-the hot wax just peels right off, and wipe my face! How refreshing it was- every must make an appointment here.
After, I headed to the convention center for ladies night at the Flower show. I was super excited to be invited to Girl’s Night hosted by Philadelphia Style Magazine and Macy’s. About 500 plus women attended the event, roaming around a huge room full of food, drink, clothing and beauty vendors. Guests sampled cocktails by Buddakan AC and other Steven Starr restaurants. The new DO AC campaign was all up in there! Can’t wait to experience the new HQ Beach Club at Revel! There were also marshmallow covered strawberries and that delicious truffle oil and lime popcorn from Square 1682 to munch on while ladies chose to get their makeup done by Macy’s Lancome specialists, or hair styled by Pileggi.
I was especially excited to discover Jade’s Closet while at the event. It’s a newly- opened boutique in Manayunk by young store owner Jade, who carries designers from Mara Hoffman to Siwy denim- which may I add, are the best fitting jeans ever to be made in America. I can’t wait to visit the the actual store in the near future.
This year’s Flower Show theme was inspired by British culture. The entrance space was decorated by a huge banner of wild flowers and the British flag. Marching men were also scattered around the floor. And as always, there’s so much to see like the cool cactus plants that are nationally grown, and purchasing unique hanging flower plants for your windows that require no dirt. The Friday finisher was nothing like the delicious and fresh food of Audrey Claire and a walk around the neighborhood in pre-Spring conditions. The weather is getting warmer as we speak. I am not sure why the meteorologist keeps forecasting snow storms called "sequester." Last time I checked that meant kidnapped-yikes! Who wants to be housed indoors because of the snow? By the way, there are some amazingly dressed female meteorologist on television these days. Have you seen the Korean lady who tells the weather for the entire globe? It’s impressive. But just in case I publish this or if you’re reading two days from when this was published and the weather’s all wrong, head over to the Flower Show, it sure is sunny on that part of town.
