“Girl Meets World” gives fans of the older show, “Boy Meets World,” a chance to relive the memories. E! Online reports on Thursday that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel return, but they have new additions to their family. Rowan Blanchard will play their daughter and will be the star of the new program.
Fans of “Boy Meets World” will get the opportunity to see how the marriage of Savage, who played Cory, and Fishel, who played Topanga, has changed over the years. Blanchard stars as Riley, but she is not the only child viewers will meet on the show. Auggie is her younger brother and is being described as silly by the network.
Instead of Philadelphia, fans will watch Cory and Topanga raise their children in New York City on Friday’s premiere. Disney has made Topanga a lawyer while Cory is a history teacher who seems to have followed in Mr. Feeny’s footsteps. Riley has several friends, and their relationships are similar to Cory’s important friendships on the previous show. The original program ended in 2000, and there was some concern about bringing it back in a new form. Nevertheless, Savage and Fishel were willing to take the risk, and the creator of the comedy felt it was the right decision.
Riley may only be a middle school student on “Girl Meets World,” but she is the central focus of the new comedy. Although the network states the show will not be a copycat of the past, fans hope to see some of their favorite moments remembered. The creator of the show deliberately decided not to select a boy as the main character because it would be too similar to the past. However, this does not mean that elements of “Boy Meets World” will not play a part in the new series.
