Update: A girl found locked in a "cage" suffered no apparent injuries when New Mexico found her Friday. A man and woman were arrested for child neglect for putting the disabled 8-year-old girl in a box and leaving her unattended.
Fox News said in its Jan. 29 report on this disturbing news story that a couple in Las Cruces is charged with child abuse, one causing and the other with allowing the act to take place.
Cindy Patriahchias, 33 and her boyfriend, Edmond Gonzales, 37, were still behind bars Tuesday after the disabled girl was found caged in a box like an animal.
Sources from KDAT 7 said the couple allegedly left the developmentally-disabled child alone in a box that measured about five-feet long, two and a half-feet wide and four-feet tall.
Furthermore, the girl was left unsupervised and inside the dark mobile home alone while the couple went to a movie. Imagine that?
The woman's ex-husband became alarmed and called police when three of his children showed up to an event, while his 8-year-old daughter was unaccounted for. Police went to the arrested woman's home, where they found the girl locked in a cage.
Officers waited for the couple to return home from the movie. After an investigation, they were arrested.
Of note; Patriahchias is said to have been trying to adopt the little girl, according to some news reports.
