The girl found in a dumpster on Sunday near her home in Smithville, Ohio, was only nine years old. Just 12 hours after the girl’s dead body was found in a trash bin, a neighbor was arrested on Sunday. At a news conference on Sunday, Wayne County Sheriff Travis Hutchinson said that police have arrested 24-year-old Jerrod Metsker, reported Fox News on Dec. 16, 2013.
“Twenty-four-year-old Jerrod Metsker is set to appear Monday in the Wayne County Court of Common Pleas on an aggravated murder charge in the death of Reann Murphy.”
Nine-year-old Reann Murphy, whose dead body was found in a dumpster on Sunday around 1:35 a.m., had been last seen Saturday night playing outside in a shared area at the mobile home park where she lived.
When Reann Murphy was reported missing around 8 p.m. on Saturday, officers, firefighters and neighbors conducted a desperate and frantic search for the little girl by going door-to-door and combing through the area.
Just a few hours later, the search came to a tragic end when the nine-year-old girl's dead body was found in a dumpster near her home.
The little girl’s neighbor, 24-year-old Jerrod Metsker, was arrested at his home after he ignored knocks on his front door by the police. Deputies were able to get into the house after they had obtained a key from a family member.
After his little girl was found dead in a trash bin, Reann’s father said that he wished the “worst for the guy” who killed his little girl. "All she did was love people."
Wayne County Sheriff Travis Hutchinson did not comment on how the little girl was killed or why the 24-year-old threw her body in a dumpster. Sheriff Hutchinson did describe Jerrod Metsker as a neighbor and a “family friend.”
