A girl found in a dumpster in Ohio is dead and an Ohio man is in custody. On Dec. 15, FOX News reported that the body of a 9-year-old girl was found in a dumpster and police believe that 24-year-old Jerrod Metsker killed her and then dumped her body there. He is in custody and is facing serious charges.
Metsker lived across the street from Reann Murphy and her family in a trailer park in Smithville. He was arrested 12 hours after police found Reann's body. The coroner has said that Reann was not stabbed or shot but her cause of death is pending an autopsy.
The girl found in the dumpster "was last seen Saturday night playing outdoors at the park. Her body was found about five hours after she was reported missing. Officers, firefighters and neighbors joined in the search for her, going door to door and combing area properties. Her body was found early Sunday," FOX News reports.
Police have not released a possible motive in the case. It is believed that Metsker was a good neighbor and friend to the Murphy family. Residents in the area were very shaken up -- they say that their neighborhood is a safe place and nothing like this has happened before.
The father of the girl found in the dumpster spoke out during a vigil on Sunday night. "She's the best thing that ever happened to me ... this is the hardest thing I've ever been through in my life. She saved my life. I wish I could trade [places with her]," Richard Murphy said, getting emotional.
