Excited about trick-or-treating with her older siblings, a 5-year-old girl ran out into the path of an oncoming car and was killed Thursday night in DeKalb County.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the child, but police said her family lives in the area where the crash occurred.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Pepperdine Drive, according to DeKalb County police.
Investigators said the child’s mother had just pulled into the driveway of a home in Decatur when the child got of the car before her mom could stop her.
“The older siblings had already crossed the street when the little girl, excited, got out of the car,” police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said. “She came from behind the car, ran out into the road and was struck.”
The girl was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where she died, police said.
No charges are expected to be filed in the incident.
