CF Villarreal destroyed Real Sociedad 5-1 in Spain’s La Liga BBVA on Monday at the Madrigal Stadium as they continue on a good pace and within European competition posts. Mexican international Giovani dos Santos led the Yellow Submarine during the thrashing scoring two goals and assisting in two others in the goal fest.

The loss ends La Real’s five game winning streak. However, the loss still keeps Sociedad in the 6th position on the league table; currently in a Europa League position like Villareal. Mexican international Carlos Vela was on the pitch for La Real. Javier Aquino, Mexico National Team member was also on the field for Villarreal.

It only took 16 minutes for Villarreal to break the net. Mario Perez broke past the defense and centered to Giovani who hit the ball with his right on first touch. It was all Villarreal from that point on. Just 10 minutes later, Nigerian Ikechukwu Uche received a pass from Gio. He fired to the far post to double the lead 2-0.

Real Sociedad did not look like the team that has been playing outstanding soccer this season, giving up control to Villarreal who took them apart. The third goal was another combination between Mario and Giovani. This time Gio shot with his left and found the near post to put his team up 3-0 in the 33rd minute. The game went to break with Villarreal holding a commanding lead.

The pounding continued in the second half with Giovani continuing his participation in the score. In the 54th Gio sent a nice pass to Uche who once again beat out goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. The Chilean keeper had a nightmare game, with one more goal coming up. Three minutes later, Moi Gomez put the fifth goal in the net for the Yellow Submarine.

Imanol Agirretxe had the honor goal in the 60th minute, but with no real chance for the Txuri Urdin to catch up. Essentially, both teams switched positions on the league table, with Villarreal moving up to 5th. Both are currently in Europa League positions, with Villarreal within two points of a UEFA Champions League position.
