Gingrich & Romney: OK with the DREAM Act only if the education option is dropped

During the NBC Republican debate in Tampa, Florida on Monday night, the question was asked if the candidates support the DREAM Act. The DREAM Act lets children whose parents were illegal, earn a path to citizenship by entering the military or going to college. This gives a fair chance for children who were brought to the country illegally through no fault of their own, the chance to be successful.

Each Republican candidate said they would veto the bill in its current form because it gives those children the chance to become a citizen by going to college. Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney both said they would support the bill only if it included the military option, but not earning an education. This stance is pretty universal throughout the conservative community and it's a shame. The Republican party is willing to let children of undocumented workers stay in the county only if they are willing to go into the military. The Republican party is on the verge of trying to start a war with Iran and will take any help they can get when it comes to putting people on the front lines. If the children want to earn an education, get a job and contribute to the country they seem to want no part of it.

Immigration is a major issue in our country and is always a hot topic when it comes to voters and candidates, but when you are so clearly one-sided on the issue it's hard to imagine a fair compromise any time in the future.
