Gingerbread cookie cocktail from Campari America is like dessert in a glass

A homemade ginger-cinnamon simple syrup combined with Wild Turkey bourbon results in a cocktail that evokes memories of classic gingerbread flavors.

Although it may sound like a dessert drink, it's not heavy or cloying at all; instead, it's nicely spiced and well balanced. Serve this at your next holiday get-together to get everyone into a festive mood.

Ingredients

For the ginger-cinnamon simple syrup:

  • 1 c water
  • 1 c granulated white sugar
  • 2-3 sticks cinnamon, broken in half
  • 1 large piece ginger, peeled and shredded or chopped

For the cocktail:

  • 2 fl oz bourbon, preferably Wild Turkey 81
  • ¾ fl oz ginger-cinnamon simple syrup
  • ½ fl oz Frangelico
  • ½ fl oz lemon juice
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters

Directions

For the ginger-cinnamon simple syrup:

1. In a small saucepan, combine all of the ingredients, and bring to a low boil.

2. Once the sugar dissolves completely, remove from the heat. Let rest until cooled.

3. Remove the cinnamon sticks and strain. Refrigerate until ready to use.

For the cocktail:

1. Fill a rocks glass with ice.

2. In a cocktail shaker, combine all of the ingredients with ice.

3. Shake and strain into the glass.
