Lifetime announced on Aug. 15 that Gina Gershon will star as Donatella Versace in the Lifetime Original Movie, “House of Versace”. Also cast is Enrico Colantoni, who will play Gianni Versace, iconic Golden Globe Award-winner Raquel Welch as their Aunt Lucia and Colm Feore as their brother, Santo. Following the movie’s premiere, Lifetime will air the hour-long documentary, “Versace: Beyond the Headlines”.
Based on Deborah Ball’s book “House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival,” the movie shares the story of Donatella who was unwilling placed in the spotlight, taking center stage in order to preserve the House of Versace. The film follows Donatella Versace’s struggles to carry on Gianni’s legacy following his brutal murder in 1997, a time when Gianni was at the height of his career and the House of Versace was a household name.
It is well known that Donatella was not well received as head designer for Versace after Gianni’s murder. “House of Versace” shares the true-life struggles of Donatella to overcome worldwide ridicule, near bankruptcy, and drug addiction. With the help of her daughter Allegra, Aunt Lucia and brother Santo, Donatella entered rehab and emerged bringing the Versace brand into one of the most powerful and influential fashion houses ever known. “House of Versace” premiers Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. and immediately following at 10 p.m. will be the airing of the hour-long documentary, “Versace: Beyond the Headlines” on Lifetime.
